El Paso County Court Docket Basics
A court docket is a case activity record. It can show a case number, court type, court location, division, party names, attorney information, hearing dates, and docket entries such as advisements, motions, continuances, orders, judgments, or sentencing events. It helps a user track the case path. It does not replace the court file.
In El Paso County, docket routing depends on the court level. District Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court for felony criminal cases, domestic relations, probate, juvenile matters, mental health, and civil claims in any amount. County Court handles misdemeanors, traffic infractions, small claims, protection orders, civil claims under $25,000, and felony complaints that may later move to District Court. Municipal courts are city courts for ordinance cases and many local traffic or parking matters.
Search El Paso County Court Dockets
Use the official Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search for state District Court and County Court docket information. The state tool requires at least one filter in addition to a date range. If a search is based only on a date, it will not meet the site rule. A case number search is often the most exact path, but party and attorney searches are available when the case number is unknown.
- Choose a location filter, such as 4th Judicial District, El Paso County, or El Paso County Judicial Building.
- Select Court Type as District, County, or Both, depending on the case level.
- Pick a date range, then add a case number, party name, business name, attorney name, or attorney bar number.
- Review the docket result for case class, division, hearing date, and court location.
- Request documents through the Record/Document Request Form if the docket does not answer the question.

El Paso County Docket Court Split
The state docket tool covers Colorado state trial courts. It does not control every city ticket or local ordinance case in El Paso County. The ticket, summons, or notice should tell the user whether the case is in El Paso County Combined Courts or a municipal court. That distinction is crucial for traffic, parking, photo enforcement, and municipal criminal allegations.

The Manitou Springs Municipal Court page warns that some Manitou police citations are written into El Paso County Combined Courts.
That local warning is why the ticket controls the docket path more than the city where the stop occurred.
El Paso County Dockets vs Case Records
A docket is a list of activity. A full case record is the set of documents, orders, pleadings, tickets, judgments, dispositions, and other papers in the file. A docket can show that a disposition or sentence order exists, but the order itself usually has to be requested from the Clerk of Court. Payments and El Paso County Dockets
Docket research often leads to payment questions. The Colorado Judicial Online Payment System is the official state court payment tool for fees, fines, costs, and restitution. It lets users select a court location and search by case number, ticket number, or name. Payments made after 4:00 p.m. apply on the next business day.

Municipal Docket and Payment Search
Colorado Springs Municipal Court uses a separate vendor-hosted payment and lookup portal. It is useful for municipal record types that do not match state court case classes. The portal asks for a record type and record number. It may require letters in a citation or case number, and the official notes say that if a number starts with zero and fails, try the number without the leading zero.

Read El Paso County Docket Entries
Common docket terms are short because they are meant for court administration. A complaint starts a civil claim or states criminal allegations. An information is a prosecutor's formal charging document. A ticket is a citation or summons, often for traffic or lower-level offenses. A register of action, often called an ROA, is a brief case history that can include charges, sentences, and minute orders.
Disposition means the current or final outcome of a case or charge. A sentence order states punishment, probation, jail or prison, fines, restitution, or other terms. A continuance is a postponed hearing or deadline. A protection order limits contact or conduct for safety or legal reasons. These terms matter because a short docket entry can point to a document that must be requested from the Clerk of Court.
El Paso County Docket Scam Warning
Colorado Judicial Branch warned residents in 2026 about fraudulent court appearance text messages that claimed traffic or district court obligations. Legitimate notices may arrive by mail, in person, through counsel, through an initial summons at a traffic stop, or by opted-in text reminder for an existing case. A valid court notice includes a case number, judicial district, judge or clerk information, courthouse address, date, and time.
